Vanillaware’s exceptional aesthetics and intricate narratives have long served as the primary inspiration for the composers at Basiscape. Under the guidance of Hitoshi Sakimoto, the team was given complete creative freedom to explore the musical identity of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim.

The result is a sound unrestrained by a single genre – 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim Remix & Arrange Album. This release bridges the gap between orchestral tradition and modern electronic dynamics. It is a bold homage to the classic Japanese club scene, reimagining the original score with vibrant new colours and a breath of fresh air.

“-Branched-” may not be a familiar term to many, but it is a concept well known to game and application developers. From a core version, multiple branches are extended, allowing various forms of trial and error to proceed in parallel. Improved results are then reflected back, from which further branching occurs once again. If one were to trace back the development history of a finished product, one would find that countless branched versions exist alongside it.

This album takes as its central concept those “branched versions” and “species divergences” — the “possible divergences” that may have existed within the world of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. Just as individuals who share the same genetic makeup can find their stories diverging through differences in environment and encounter, we envisioned that music sharing the same melody could also give rise to entirely different narratives through arrangement and remix. Based on this idea, the album was constructed as a whole, with each track expanding upon and exploring its own musical vision.

As another core pillar of this work, the album also includes two brand-new tracks. “-PROTEASE-” is presented as a collapse-themed arrangement set within a branched worldline, while “Stellar Memories (Memories of the Stars),” sung by Miyuki Inaba, serves as the album’s closing track. We hope you will enjoy discovering the kinds of “divergences” these songs are meant to depict.
